NHS 24 Scotland

The NHS 24 Centre in Edinburgh plays a critical role as the front line for handling emergency calls across the region. The dedicated staff are responsible for managing everything from minor ailments to life-threatening emergencies, offering vital assistance to people in need at any time of the day or night. I had the privilege of being invited to spend two days at the centre, documenting the important work they do through photography.

The atmosphere inside the NHS 24 Centre was understandably tense, as staff worked under pressure to respond to a wide variety of complex calls. However, I was struck by how professional, calm, and composed the team remained throughout every situation. Their ability to provide reassurance and clear advice, even in the face of serious medical emergencies, was inspiring. As I captured the moments of focus and dedication, my goal was to reflect the intensity of the environment while also highlighting the empathy and humanity of the staff who work tirelessly to support the community.

The shoot required me to adapt quickly to the fast-paced environment, ensuring that I captured the essence of the centre’s critical role while respecting the privacy and sensitivity of the patients and staff involved. The result was a series of powerful, authentic images that illustrate the professionalism and commitment of the NHS 24 team.

As a professional photographer based in Edinburgh, I specialise in documentary photography and have extensive experience capturing the human stories behind high-pressure environments like healthcare settings. Whether working in corporate offices, industrial locations, or the frontline of emergency services, I strive to deliver images that convey the essence of the work being done, with a focus on authenticity and emotion.
